Marius Marais started in the professional audio industry in 1991, after qualifying as an aircraft instruments technician in the South African Air force.

Marius was appointed at the State Theatre as a sound technician and quickly excelled to a trusted and very capable engineer. The Rendezvous Theatre provided a very good environment for learning the finer details about mixing live sound. From mixing jazz to cabaret in the rendezvous, he moved on to the mixing musicals and other productions in the Opera and Drama Theatres. Musicals includes, Sound of Music, Me and my girl, Joseph and his amazing Technicolor dream coat to name a few.

From the The State Theatre, Marius moved to the Sand du Plessis Theatre in Bloemfontein where he was employed as head of sound.

In 1995 Marius returned to Gauteng and worked for and with a number of companies including, The Sound Corporation and Sound Stylists. In March 2004 Marius joined MATRIX Corporate and Theatre Sound as a partner. On the 1st of April 2009 Marius left MATRIX and made himself available to the industry on a freelance basis as an engineer and consultant.
